Colt starting, problem horses, horse training video reports

Video reports: natural horsemanship principles, philosophy and methods applied to start colts and older horses

One-day clinic to fix horse problems

  • Name: Ushuaïa
  • Breed: Halflinger
  • Age: 7 years old
  • Genre: mare

Ushuaïa was a gentle but quite too often disrespectful and potentially dangerous mare. Her owner wished us to work together in order to fix problems and enjoy a new start!

Starting over an abused spooky mare

  • Name: Louisiane
  • Breed: French Saddle Horse
  • Age: 4 years old
  • Genre: mare

Louisiane has been broken by a tough guy, using old mean and useless methods. The result is that she was barely rideable, frightened by everything, shy and almost uncatchable…

Colt starting in real time – Day 1

  • Name: Banjo
  • Breed: Solid Paint
  • Age: 3 years old
  • Genre: gelding

Thanks to Banjo, I can show you a real-time colt starting. Nothing is missing, nothings is hidden, the video also includes the boring moments ;o)

Colt starting in real time – Day 2

  • Name: Banjo
  • Breed: Solid Paint
  • Age: 3 years old
  • Genre: gelding

Banjo revealed himself much more sensitive than expected. We worked a lot the hind quarters in order to get rid of the kicking…

Colt starting in real time – Day 3

  • Name: Banjo
  • Breed: Solid Paint
  • Age: 3 years old
  • Genre: gelding

Most important lesson of this third day: whatever the beginning of your session, the most important is to make sure your horse ends it as calm and relaxed as possible.

Colt starting in real time – Day 4

  • Name: Banjo
  • Breed: Solid Paint
  • Age: 3 years old
  • Genre: gelding

This session was the first real day under saddle for Banjo. This horse is much more spooky than initially expected but we ended the session peacefully walking in the bit.

Halter breaking a five year old stallion

  • Name: Salem
  • Breed: French/Spanish
  • Age: 5 years old
  • Genre: stallion

Salem has never been manipulated, nor halter broken or anything. He has spent the first five years of his life completely free in his pasture and paddock.

Starting 7 colts in 5 days

  • Names: Goliat, Bueno, Bronson, Borneo, Sahzam, Canastero, Galvador
  • Breed: Arabian and Spanish horses
  • Age: 3 and 4 years old
  • Genre: stallions (except Bueno that is a gelding)

The new challenge for me was to start seven horses in only five days. I have been through a detailed program, worked everyday with the seven horses and I finally could ride them all. Nice horses!

Starting an old Arabian stallion

  • Name: Perm
  • Breed: Arabian
  • Age: 17 years old
  • Genre: stallion

This stallion has spent the last 13 years walking from a stable to a round-pen, and breeding mares from time to time. He experienced riding once when he “got broke” in 2000.

Starting a dominant Arabian stallion

  • Name: Elixir
  • Breed: Arabian
  • Age: 4 years old
  • Genre: stallion

This Arabian stallion was a very dominating and disrespectful horse that needed a gentle approach to become a partner in riding.

Starting a P.R.E. gelding

  • Name: Finito
  • Breed: P.R.E.
  • Age: 3 ½ years old
  • Genre: gelding

This Pura Raza Española gelding had had some issues in the past: ears pinched and it appears that he probably not has been treated gently. Since then, he’s never been worked or broke.

Starting an Arabian gelding

  • Name: Etamoor
  • Breed: Arabian
  • Age: 3 ½ years old
  • Genre: gelding

This Arabian gelding has been started in four days. He was born in 2009, has been brushed a couple of times and halter broke, but never worked, never been saddled or anything.
